Partners with St. Andrew A.M.E. Church for Free MoneyWorks Conference

MEMPHIS, Tenn. – Two of the most crucial financial responsibilities for homeowners are mortgage and property tax payments. Each year, about $30 million in property taxes goes unpaid with nearly 2,000 properties selected for tax sale as a result. Shelby County Trustee David Lenoir will host a Project H.O.M.E. (Home Ownership Made Easier) workshop for delinquent taxpayers onOct. 17 at St. Andrew A.M.E. Church (867 S. Parkway E.) at 11 a.m.

Project H.O.M.E. is being offered as part of the church’s annual Money Matters Financial Literacy Conference sponsored by its MoneyWorks Ministry. The full conference will feature topics including: investing for beginners, starting a business, estate planning, wealth building strategies and will provide free confidential credit reports. The conference is free and open to the public from 10 a.m. – 2 p.m.

“We realize a number of factors like financial hardship, illness, or the loss of a job could contribute to someone falling behind on their property taxes; and we provide Project H.O.M.E. to assist taxpayers whose properties are eligible for tax sale,” Lenoir said. “St. Andrew A.M.E. is a great community partner who is equally invested in providing financial education to the community. We are proud to support co-pastors Kenneth and Marilynn Robinson with this event.”

Since 2010, the Trustee’s Office has held monthly Project H.O.M.E. workshops across the county and assisted more than 2,000 delinquent taxpayers with financial counseling and payment plan options.
