HICKORY HILL COMMUNITY REDEVELOPMENT CORPORATION (HHCRC) HOSTS CRIME PREVENTION AND COMMUNITY SAFETY EXPO OCTOBER 25TH

MEMPHIS, TN—the city’s largest and first of its kind crime prevention and community safety expo will be held on Saturday, October 25th Ridge Mall Towne Centre. The purpose of this event is to highlight the community services within Greater Memphis and Shelby County and to increase the communities’ safety awareness through education and prevention. “It is our mission to empower the families of Hickory Hill and its surrounding communities. HHCRC also seeks to impact community issues such as domestic
violence, gangs and crime. With so many of us falling victim to crime in our neighborhoods, we want to bring awareness and provide knowledge of crime prevention along with community and personal safety.” says Malisa Gillum, Executive Director of Hickory Hill Community Redevelopment Corporation.

The Crime Prevention and Community Safety Expo presented by HHCRC and sponsored by Hickory Ridge Mall Towne Centre, Bounceria, and World Overcomers Outreach Ministries Church has collaborated with over 40 organizations including local emergency response departments, public safety providers, and community and church organizations who will be attending the event. “Our focus is to educate and bring awareness of services available to those that have been a victim by linking people to the needed personal and safety services that are available within their communities” explains Cathy Foster RN, event coordinator.

Expo organizers stress that this is not a typical fair. We will offer a variety of activities going on throughout the day such as, interactive exhibits by American Red Cross Safety House, and DUI Fatal Vision Course; specialty vehicle tours by the S.W.A.T.T. Team Unit, Jail Time Truck, and Fire Truck; visual exhibits of the Jaws of Life, K-9 unit, MPD Motorcycle and Mounted Patrol and; and an anti-bullying presentation by Heal the Hood.

There will also be “A Brown Bag Review” as part of the event promotion of safety awareness. Students from The University of Tennessee College of Pharmacy will be on site to answer questions about prescription medications. Attendees are encouraged to bring their prescriptions and to talk with a pharmacist. Also available will be mini-seminars addressing domestic violence, teen dating violence, gun safety, school safety, and emergency preparedness for adults and teens.

Although this event’s focus is crime prevention and safety, there will be a variety of entertainment and plenty of fun for children too! Carousel rides, a bounce house by Bounceria, face painting and a special appearance by McGruff, the crime dog.

The entire city is invited to attend this exciting event. It will be a day of food and fun for the entire family. The Hickory Ridge Town Centre is located at 6075 Winchester at Hickory Hill and Ridgeway Rd.
