Chess Workshops for Adult Beginners

Memphis Public Library and Information Center’s Humanities Department is hosting a Beginners Chess workshop series  for adults. Shelby County Chess instructors Korey Kormick, Matthew Horton, and Christy Kirchner team up to teach 4 free one hour workshops beginning September 22, 2015 thru October 14, 2015. The first workshop in the series will be held on Tuesday 22 September, from 6-7pm in Meeting Room B at the Benjamin Hooks Library, located at 3030 Poplar.  We will ,also, host a Chess Tournament on October 31st from 10 – 3.

The workshops provide comprehensive chess instruction for adults interested in learning to play, or adults who want a refresher on the game. The primary objective of these workshops is for adults to confidently and successfully be able to play chess against others unaided.

GYM WORKER -PARKS & RECREATION – ATHLETICS

The City of Bartlett is hiring Athletic Staff to work during the evening hours and on the weekends.  The successful candidate will work approximately 15-20 hours per week.  Must be at least 16 years of age, or older.  This is an ideal job for students.  Bartlett resident preferred, but not required.  This is a part-time position with no benefits.

PERSONAL TRAINER – PART-TIME (BRC)

Will work on Saturdays from 9:00 a.m. until 6:00 p.m. and Sundays from 1:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m.  May be required to work holidays as needed. This is a part-time position at the Bartlett Recreation Center (BRC). Must have the certifications required for Personal Trainers.

Qualifications

Must have the certifications required for Personal Trainers. Must be CPR and First Aid certified. Experience and knowledge of fitness equipment and maintenance procedures preferred, but not required. Must pass background check and physical exam, including a drug screen.

Special Requirements

Bartlett resident preferred, but not required. Will work in a non-smoking work environment.

The City of Bartlett is hiring Summer Camp Counselors to conduct activities for campers ages 7-14 at the Bartlett Recreation Center.  The successful candidate will work Monday through Friday, morning, afternoon and evening shifts, during he summer months, beginning at the end of May and continuing through the first week of August. Will be responsible for supervising children in a camp setting, as well as planning and implementing safe, fun, age appropriate activities. Must be able to communicate effectively and be responsible for proper maintenance and care of facility and equipment.  Must be able to administer first aid when necessary.

Qualifications

Must be at least 18 years of age and have experience working with children leading games, sports or arts and crafts. Bartlett resident preferred, but not required. The City will provide CPR, first aid and AED training, if necessary. Must pass a background check and physical exam, including a drug screen and TB test.

The City of Bartlett will conduct a Summer Sports Camp for children at the Bartlett Recreation Center and needs a qualified person to direct the program.  Will work daily, Monday through Friday, from 8:00 a.m. until 5:00 p.m., for a total of 40 hours per week, from Tuesday, May 26, through Friday, August 7.  A successful applicant must be mature with good judgment and experience working with children.  An educational background in Physical Education, Recreation or a related field is preferred.

This position is responsible for assisting the Day Camp Director in administering and supervising a Summer Day Camp at Singleton Community Center.  Will help the Director in planning the events of the camp, supervising the counselors and campers, assisting in interviewing applicants for new counselors, planning training for counselors, and communicating with parents, counselors, campers and other staff in a timely and professional manner.  Will keep daily attendance records, discipline forms, accident forms and other necessary daily records.

Qualifications

Requires a minimum of two years of college in Recreation, Elementary Education, or related field or a minimum of three years’ experience working with school aged children, or a combination of education and experience. Must have or obtain a current CPR certification. Must pass a background check and physical exam, including drug test and TB test.

This is a part-time position with no benefits.  This individual will work the front desk at the Bartlett Recreation Center.  This position greets visitors and members, enrolls new members, makes ID cards and answers the Bartlett Recreation Center telephone.

Will work Monday through Friday from 4:30 a.m. – 10:00 a.m., alternating Sundays, some Holidays and Special Events.  Will work approximately 20-25 hours per week.

Qualifications

Requires minimum age of 18 with some skill and experience in operating PC software. Will interact continuously with the public. Customer service experience preferred, but not required.

Special Requirements

Must pass a background check and physical exam, including a drug screen.

This is a part-time position with no benefits.  Work is performed under the direct supervision of the Head Age Group Swim Coach and the indirect supervision of the Aquatics Manager for the Bartlett Recreation Center.  Will be responsible for maintaining a working level of knowledge about competitive swimming, organizing and facilitating practices and assisting head swim coach whenever needed.  Will coordinate and run practices; assist in preparing swim meet entries; assist in yearly planning and analysis; assist in planning regular and extra-curricular team functions.  Will be required to attend home and away swim meets.  Will coach the Novice, Intermediate, Advanced, Senior and Master swimmers, assist with high school swim meets and organize and run swim clinics.  Will be required to maintain attendance records and reports, assure the safety of swimmers while involved in team activities and functions and maintain a current knowledge of swimming trends and techniques.  Must be available to perform lifeguard duties and assist in other BRC activities when needed.

 

Qualifications

Must possess the following certifications: American Red Cross Lifeguard CPR; American Red Cross Safety Training for Swim Coaches; American Red Cross AED; American Red Cross Emergency Oxygen Administration; American Red Cross PDT; American Red Cross Water Safety Instructor. Must have high school diploma or GED, with some experience in competitive swimming and/or coaching. Must pass a background check and physical exam, including a drug screen. Must be at least 18 years of age or older.
