Organization

A partnership between the Community Foundation of Greater Memphis, the Memphis Housing Authority and the United Way of the Mid-South led to the creation of RISE in October 1999. With its original mission to help public housing residents achieve financial independence, RISE served 48 families and helped them create assets of $83,000.

Since that time, RISE has provided over 500 families with financial information that has assisted them with purchasing their first large assets, encouraged over 500 youth to excel in school, improved the money management skills of over 3,000 area employees, and brought together more than 130 organizations to address predatory lending practices and educate citizens about ways to avoid costly alternative lending traps. To date, RISE’s work has created over $6 million in assets in the City of Memphis/Shelby County. Position:

RISE Foundation, a local nonprofit with a mission to empower low income residents of Memphis and Shelby County to build and sustain human and financial assets, has a part-time opening (with potential for full-time) for a Program Coordinator. The primary work site for the position will be in Fayette County. The Program Coordinator will coordinate the “Goal Card” incentive program, currently serving eighth graders who attend school in Fayette County, Tennessee. Essential functions include, but are not limited to, recruiting youth program participants and adult coaches (mentors), assessing the social/academic needs of program participants, facilitating services, tracking/monitoring program outcomes for evaluation purposes and other tasks as assigned.

Applicants must possess a degree in social/human services, counseling, education or a related field.

Experience requirements include at least two years experience working in youth programs (preferably in a rural setting). Working knowledge of Microsoft Office and Windows-based computer software applications required. Applicants must have the ability to maintain case records. Strong written and verbal communication skills are necessary. Applicants must demonstrate the ability to relate to youth.

The work schedule requires occasional evening and weekend hours. The Coordinator will travel and must have daily access to an operable automobile with State mandated automobile insurance.

RISE Foundation offers financial literacy classes to people to teach them to save and build assets. This person will be responsible for the sale of Common Cents classes to Memphis area businesses targeted at their hourly wage employees.
Training will be provided along with Marketing materials

Requirements:

  • Outside sales and cold calling experience required
  • A network of Memphis area businesses a plus; preferably contacts in the Human Resources area
  • Experience meeting a sales quota
  • Ability to work with the staff of RISE to schedule and coordinate classes
  • Motivated and ambitious

  • Superb communication and presentation skills
