ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:  Works under the direction of an assigned supervisor to provide vocational education and guidance to assist individuals in understanding and overcoming barriers to employment.  Collects, organizes, and analyzes information about individuals through records, tests, interviews, and professional sources to appraise their interests, aptitudes, abilities, and personality characteristics for vocational and educational planning. Facilitates group/ individual orientation sessions and explains requirements for participation in agency sponsored programs.  Participates as part of a team to determine the client’s suitability for participation in programs and determines eligibility and priority for service ensuring compliance with regulations and agency policies and procedures. Compiles and studies occupational, educational, labor market, and economic information to aid clients in making and carrying out vocational and educational objectives.  Delivers workforce development services to participants in accordance with the agency’s policies and procedures including the case management system, job search techniques, and other training activities.  Arranges services through cooperative agreements with other human service organizations within the community.  Follows up with participants to evaluate training and placement techniques to ensure successful outcomes.  Maintains detailed participant and work site records and files in compliance with agency policies and procedures.

TYPICAL PHYSICAL DEMANDS:  Must be able to communicate clearly both verbally and in writing.  Requires the ability to operate general office equipment such as a personal computer and telephone.  Must be able to lift and carry objects such as boxes of training booklets weighing up to 25 lbs. and stand for long periods of time and have visual acuity to make presentations.

TYPICAL WORKING CONDITIONS: Work is performed in an office/training room environment.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:  Bachelor’s degree in Social Services or a related field and three (3) years experience performing professional human services/social work; or any combination of experience and training which enables one to perform the essential job functions. Specific experience providing job training and utilizing various software such as WordPerfect, MS Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint, etc. strongly preferred. (PROOF OF EDUCATION REQUIRED)

Case management services for Families First clients whose ultimate goal is to find and maintain full time employment of at least 30 hours per week.  Duties include, but are not limited to:

  • Completing Assessments, Individual Career Plans and providing case management services to a caseload of approximately 150 clients.  Clients are seen weekly, bi-monthly and monthly depending on their status.
  • Placement and monitoring of clients’ activities to meet contract compliance.
  • Become proficient in customized computer databases and maintaining information in those computer databases.
  • Establish and maintain relationships with clients to encourage and promote the clients to report on a regular basis.



  • College degree in Social Work or related field preferred but not required.
  • One to two years of full-time paid work experience in a related field.
  • Excellent communication, organizational and interpersonal skills.
  • Previous social work experience preferred.
  • Computer literate; knowledge of Microsoft Office programs.
  • Be able to work at least 1 evening each week.
  • Ability to work in a fast paced environment and to deal with disgruntled clients, as well as, those who have barriers to obtaining employment.
  • Must authorize the release of any investigative and criminal records obtained by the Federal Bureau of Investigation and the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation to the Tennessee Community Services Agency.

RISE Foundation, a local nonprofit with a mission to empower people to become self-sufficient by building and sustaining human and financial assets, has an opening for a full-time program coordinator. The program coordinator will coordinate the National Neighbors Silver (NNS) grant. This initiative combines advocacy, organizing and direct services that will in turn, promote access to responsible banking services and decent housing for older adults.
Generally, the Program Coordinator is responsible for: Create an organizing network for senior citizens Organize financial education and advocacy programs for older adults Identify and train older adult community leaders Conduct needs assessments/surveys with senior citizens Serve as a direct point of contact with grantor Perform other related duties that may be added at the supervisor’s discretion.

Education: Bachelor degree required.

Experience: Applicant must have documented experience working with senior citizens on a full-time basis. Experience training/teaching senior citizens. Experience coordinating volunteers. Nonprofit management a plus.
Knowledge/Skills/Abilities: Working knowledge of Microsoft Office software applications and the ability to master other software applications is required. Knowledge of community resources aimed at assisting senior citizens. Excellent interpersonal, oral and written communication skills are mandatory. Ability to manage multiple projects necessary.
Other: A valid driver’s license, state mandated insurance and daily access to an operable automobile is required. Occasional evening and weekend hours are mandatory. A background screen will be conducted.

TITLE:  Associate Executive Director (AED)

REPORTS TO: Executive Director of Memphis Shelby Crime Commission

OVERVIEW: The Memphis Shelby Crime Commission (MSCC) is a nonprofit, 501c3 organization which serves as the quarterbacking agency for Operation: Safe Community (OSC), Memphis and Shelby County’s comprehensive plan to reduce crime and the public safety arm of the Memphis Fast Forward initiative.  Led by a high profile multi-sector board of directors, the MSCC oversees and facilitates the development and implementation of the plan and will roll out phase two in January 2012.

The Associate Executive Director (AED) position will be the number two staff person responsible for the successful implementation of the plan, and is expected to perform a highly complex project management function involving driving multiple projects, each involving multiple community leaders and stakeholders, to successful outcomes.  The AED will for the immediate future have primary responsibility for implementation of Goal Five: Reduce Youth Violence, the largest segment of the plan and which was established in partnership with the U.S. Department of Justice (DOJ) where Memphis was selected as one of 6 cities to participate in the National Forum on Youth Violence Prevention.  The AED will be the primary contact with the Department of Justice leadership team, and will be responsible for producing and sharing regular progress reports and learnings with the DOJ and ‘peer city’ leaders, and ensuring that the Memphis work is successful and viewed as such by these and all of OSC stakeholders.


  • Supports development, refinement and implementation of all initiatives of the OSC plan, with lead responsibility for successful implementation of Goal Five: Reduce Youth Violence.
  • Serves as primary liaison and implementer for all projects and activities generated through the Department of Justice Forum on Youth Violence Prevention, including attending and coordinating local participation in Forum conferences and meetings as well as DOJ site visits to Memphis.
  • Establishes vehicles (meeting schedule, report templates, etc.) with leaders/teams for each of the Goal Five strategies and action items through which to 1) monitor progress against their respective action plans and produce quarterly reports, 2) refine action plans as needed, 3) problem solve challenges, and 4) ensure they have participation from all parties essential to their success.
  • Prepares and presents regular reports on progress, including challenges and accomplishments, for MSCC executive director and board of directors, DOJ Forum stakeholders, and other stakeholder groups.
  • Represents MSCC in the community as a public spokesperson and at various meetings, as needed.
  • Works with agency ED to coordinate Goal Five strategies and action plans with other OSC goals, as appropriate and productive.
  • Works with Marketing and Community Relations Manager to promote the work of various strategies and project teams.
  • In the absence of the ED and when so assigned, performs the functions of the MSCC ED.
  • Performs other duties as required.
