Position Summary
The COOL program promotes and supports higher education attainment for first-generation, low-income students of average academic performance. The higher education coordinator is responsible for the daily functions of the in-school program for 11th and 12th grade students at Booker T. Washington High School, including monitoring of participant enrollment through recruitment and retention practices, implementation as it relates to academic progress, and evaluation.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree required
- Two years’ knowledge of higher education systems including admissions and financial aid processes
- Three years’ experience in customer service, preferably in social services or education
- Two years of utilizing interpersonal and communication skills to effectively relate and respond to teens
- Proficiency at operating communication systems (computers, email, laptops, telephone, faxes, scanners, and presentation equipment), Microsoft Word and Excel, and various database systems
- Flexible hours as needed; evenings, some weekends, and some travel required
- Transportation, valid license, and insurance required
Major Responsibilities & Related Tasks
Supervise classes to ensure student performance and success in attaining higher education
- Maintain a student case load of at least 50 students per year
- Recruit students, encourage participation, and maintain enrollment
- Instruct using appropriate grade level higher education attainment curriculum
- Conduct daily higher education attainment classes, utilizing staff and volunteers to present specific college readiness information
- Conduct mandatory weekly one-on-one and/or small group meetings with 11th and 12th grade students to track higher education enrollment progress; provide encouragement and deal with any issues or challenges
- Maintain accurate attendance records and files/databases entries for each student
- Assist program manager with ACT preparation and testing sessions
- Assist program manager with bi-annual parent meetings, provide program updates, and encourage active support of their students’ higher education goals
Assist program manager with duties related to the coordination of college tours, career learning opportunities, events, field trips, and summer camps to present students with opportunities for enriching experiences
- Make appropriate travel arrangements for each tour
- Chaperone and supervise all students, ensuring and promoting responsible behavior and safety at all times
- Assist with coordinating student activities and experiences
Assist program manager in the coordination and facilitation of volunteer component, which includes speakers and mentors
- Coordinate all mentor-mentee events
- Maintain contact with various organizations and corporations for career learning opportunities (i.e. internships or summer jobs)
Other Responsibilities
- Attend community-based organization meetings representing MIFA and COOL as needed
- Work with the COOL Friends advisory group to develop and implement ideas for program enhancement
- Ability to welcome and respect people of diverse ages and races with sensitivity to civic and cultural issues
- Ability to handle client and donor information confidentially and discreetly
- Work closely with MIFA advancement team to ensure funder compliance through active and engaged relationships and communication

Position Summary
Facilitate and coordinate the service and delivery of the meals at congregate sites including set-up and clean-up of the facility.
Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED equivalent
- Six months of some combination of food service or customer service experience
- Ability to welcome and respect people of diverse ages, races, with sensitivity to civic and cultural issues
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment with frequent interruptions
- Good people skills
- Ability to complete clerical duties on schedule with little or no supervision
- Ability to handle client and donor information confidentially and discreetly
Major Responsibilities & Related Tasks
Coordinate activities required to ensure the distribution and record of meals served at MIFA’s congregate meal sites
- Responsible for proper serving of food to congregate meals participants
- Responsible for food safe temperature guidelines in accordance with health department
- Verifies that food received aligns with the approved menu
- Maintain an accurate roster of clients served
- Enroll new clients at site and forward information to client assessment supervisor for approval
- Maintain accurate monthly and weekly site records
- Notify the client assessment supervisor of any emergencies
Coordinate meal service and clean-up.
- Train and monitor volunteers as needed, while serving meals to clients
- Clean and sanitize work and storage area daily
Other Responsibilities
- Attend staff training workshops
- Participate in training sessions designed to improve job-related skills in food handling, volunteer recruitment, and record maintenance
- Assist in outreach and nutrition education programs as needed

- Possession of Tennessee commercial driver’s license with P endorsement (physical required by TDOT).

Provide client transportation to and from various appointments. This may include doctor appointments, grocery shopping, and activities to otherwise support and maintain self-sufficiency.
- Drive a vehicle that is consistent with qualifications of your driver’s license
- Provide safe and reliable transportation for MIFA clients
- Assist wheelchair or ambulatory clients
- Manage the operation of vehicles that is wheelchair lift equipped
- Provide door-to-door, courteous, and professional service to clients
Collect and report collections of daily transit donations and mileage.
- Follow MIFA Transit donation procedure properly when handling donations
- Keep accurate records of mileage logs and units of service
- Report all maintenance needs to Transit manager immediately
- Keep MIFA vehicle full of fuel so clients will be transported on time
- Report all accidents and incidents to dispatcher immediately upon occurrence
- Maintain safety and order on MIFA vehicle at all times
- Fill out vehicle inspection report and mileage logs daily and report any problems to the fleet assistant or Transit director
- Maintain a professional customer service attitude at all times
