Disability Rights Tennessee (DRT) is a private non-profit agency which is designated as the protection and advocacy system for Tennessee. DRT is currently accepting applications for a Disability Rights Advocate. This position will be in our agency’s Memphis Office.

This Advocate will serve clients in both DRT’s disability discrimination and employment areas. Under the supervision of a licensed Tennessee attorney, this Advocate will assist clients with issues that include the following:

 Obtaining appropriate services from Tennessee’s Division of Rehabilitation Services

 Addressing disability discrimination in multiple settings

This staff member will also conduct trainings related to the issues above and engage in collaborations with other disability related organizations. The successful candidate will have the following skills and abilities: sound professional judgment, strong organizational and time management skills, proficient use of computers and word processing software, ability to learn to use our case database, strong oral and written communication skills, ability to engage in logical analysis, strong research and writing skills, ability to work well in teams, and ability to professionally represent DRT.

Master’s Degree in Special Education, Social Work, Sociology, Counseling, or related degree preferred. Bachelor’s Degree with 3 years or more experience as an Advocate or in a similar position will be considered in lieu of an advance degree. Existing knowledge of disability rights issues preferred.
