Saturday, October 10th will mark the international observance of World Homeless Day. Since its inception in 2010, this day has been set aside to draw attention to the needs of homeless people and provide opportunities for the community to get involved in responding to homelessness. As a part of the Mayors’ Action Plan to End Homelessness, citizens of Memphis and the Mid-south are encouraged to impact the lives of homeless people in their local communities by volunteering or donating to Project Homeless Connect. This massive event will take place on October 15th at the Memphis Cook Convention Center, beginning at 9:00 a.m.
Project Homeless Connect allows individuals who are experiencing homelessness to access a wide array of resources and services that are needed to leave homelessness. These services include healthcare, dental care, mental health services, housing referrals, employment services, legal advice, and more. Organized by the Community Alliance for the Homeless, the event also provides homeless individuals with breakfast, lunch, and an assortment of personal care items. This annual event mobilizes city agencies, community organizations and volunteers to ensure that participants receive holistic care in a dignified setting.
Volunteers are invited to lend their hearts and hands by clicking here, or you may sign up through Volunteer Memphis. For more information about World Homeless Day, please visit www.worldhomelessday.org.
