MOTHER’S DAY BRUNCH:

May 10 – Mother’s Day Brunch at the Garden – Presented by 4Memphis Magazine and Eden Spa & Laser. Treat Mom to an unforgettable experience in the Japanese Garden, featuring a gourmet buffet, live music, children’s crafts, and outdoor family fun. Carriage rides and adult beverages available at additional cost. MKX Photography will be on-hand for family portrait sittings at a nominal fee. 10:30 a.m. – 2 p.m. MBG members $45/non-members $55/Children 2-12 years: $10/Under 2: FREE. ART IN THE GARDEN:

May 2-28 – All Things Great and Small Show Number Two by Students of the Fred Rawlinson Atelier – Exhibit is open to the public and free to view in Fratelli’s Cafe Gallery Monday–Saturday 11  a.m.- 2 p.m. only. All exhibited work for sale. Call 636-4100 for information.

May 6-30 – Heartbeat by Marilyn Trainor Storey and Chris Morrow – An interior designer and an art teacher inspired by Poland exhibiting in the Visitors Center Gallery. On May 6, there will be an Opening Reception from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. All works for sale. Free public viewing during regular garden hours. Call 636-4100.

May 26, 28, and 30 – Intermediate Photography with Mark Kalagias: 3-Part Series – This course requires students to come equipped with a DSLR camera, tripod, and a laptop with Adobe Lightroom installed. Instructor will have a limited number of tripods to loan to students in need. Laptop needed for session three only. All 3 sessions: MBG members $195/non-members $225. May 30 – Photography Basics: Composition – Join photographer Mark Kalagias of MKX Photography for a class on photo composition that will help you take more pictures you love with fewer clicks of the shutter. 10 a.m. – 1 p.m. MBG members $25/non-members $30. Call 901-636-4128.

May 30 –  Jewelry Class: Sawing Sheet Metal – In this workshop, students will learn all the ins and outs of one of the most basic and useful of jeweler’s tools. Students will learn about proper blade loading, which saw blades to use, how different materials respond, how to mark material for sawing, inside cuts and more.  Projects for the class will be mostly about learning how to use the saw and will be technique based, however, there will be a small pendant project that students may complete in class or at home, depending on the speed at which they work, and practice pieces can be turned into charms. 10 a.m. – 5 p.m. MBG Members $70/non-members $85. FAMILY EVENTS:

May 12 – Food Truck Garden Party – Presented by Oak Hall and Vineyard Vines. Come join us for dinner al fresco, featuring live music by Joshua Cosby and Jeremy Stanfill, cash bar, and local food trucks. Kids will love the new Memphis Parent Play Zone; Co-Motion Hoopers will be there. 5 -8 p.m.MBG members $5/non-members $10, includes one drink. Tickets available at the gate.

May 27 – Home School Days-Reduce, Reuse, Recycle –  Ages 5 and up. Join us monthly at the Garden for an exciting, hands-on learning experience! Learn all about our natural resources, and make a handmade paper creation.2 – 3:30 p.m. MBG members $4/non-members $5 per child, does not include Garden admission. Call 636-4100.

May 29– Fairies, Gnomes, and Hobbit Homes – Presented by First Tennessee Foundation. Put on your wings and pointed ears and join us for a magical evening with family in My Big Backyard! 6- 8 p.m. MBG members $10/non-members $15. Click here for tickets.

Farmers’ Market at the Garden–  Wednesdays through October 29. Shop from a variety of goods that are locally grown and produced. 2-6 p.m.Open to the public.

ADULT PROGRAMS:

May 1 and 8 – Garden Tram Tours – Join docents from the Memphis Botanic Garden for a tram tour of the beautiful grounds. 10 a.m. – 12 p.m. Free to members or with paid Garden admission.

May 9 – Mid-South Hosta Society Annual Hosta Sale and Hosta Garden Tour – There will also be tours of  the Hosta Display Garden Trail. 9 a.m. – 2 p.m.  Free admission to the sale.

May 11 – Build It and They Will Come-Creating Backyard Wildlife Habitat – Mike Berkeley of GroWild, Inc., a native plant nursery in Fairview, TN, will launch our summer lecture series with a program on the use of native plants in the home landscape.6:30 – 8 p.m. WRC & MBG members FREE/non-members $4. May 4 – Memphis Knights Big Band at the Garden – Tap your toes or jitterbug across the floor to the sounds of the Memphis Knights! Doc Popcorn concessions will be available. 7 -9 p.m.Admission $5 at the door.
