Award-winning musician Rev. John Kilzer hosts The Way, a service of recovery, at 6 p.m. every Friday at St. John’s United Methodist Church, 1207 Peabody Ave. The Way focuses on recovery, encouragement, and hope. Music is a key component of the service with many local musicians stopping by to perform. The service, which is a joint ministry of Methodist Healthcare, St. John’s, and the Church Health Center, is free and open to the public. The Church Health Center offers Commit to Quit smoking cessation groups each month. Four-week group sessions start the first Tuesday of every month from 6 p.m. to 7:15 p.m. at Church Health Center Wellness, 1115 Union Ave. Commit to Quit is free for Church Health Center Wellness members and $40 for the community. Call 901-701-2222 to enroll.

The Community Development Council and the Church Health Center will co-host free, in-person assistance on a first-come, first-served basis to individuals who qualify for the Special Enrollment Period, March 15 through April 30, and have not yet enrolled in health coverage through the Affordable Care Act. Walking as One, the Church Health Center’s annual 1.5 mile walk celebrating wellness in action in Memphis, will be held at 9 a.m. onApril 11 at Church Health Wellness, 1115 Union Ave. To register your team, log on to WalkingAsOne.org. Registration is free, but fundraising opportunities are available by calling 901-272-7170 or visiting WalkingasOne.org .

The Church Health Center will host the Westberg Symposium from April 9-12 at the Peabody Memphis Hotel, 149 Union Ave. Participants will build on current knowledge of Faith Community Nursing practice through opportunities to interact in panel discussions and information-sharing forums and by learning from many experts in pre-conferences, workshops, and poster sessions. Church Health Center Child Life will present “Making Family Fun: How to Engage Your Children at Home, School, and the Community” at 6:00 p.m. on Monday, April 13 at 1115 Union Ave. This free workshop will focus on enhancing parental involvement in different aspects of children’s lives. The Church Health Center will present heART and Soul of Memphis at 6:30 p.m. on Friday, April 17 at The Shops of DCI, 776 E. Brookhaven Circle. This exciting event features food from restaurants including Philip Ashley Chocolates, Deja Vu, and South of Beale; an art sale; and live music. Tickets are $35. All proceeds from heART and Soul benefit the Church Health Center. To purchase tickets, log on to churchhealthcenter.org.

The first Family Fun Day at Church Health Center Wellness, 1115 Union Ave., is 9 a.m. to noon on Saturday, April 18. Activities include family art, dance, nutrition, photo booth, food trucks, games, giveaways, a live DJ, and more! This event is free and open to the community. For more information, call 901-701-2239.

Church Health Center Wellness will host Liturgical Dance Workshops from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m. on Monday, April 20 and Monday, May 4 at 1115 Union Ave. These workshop-style classes focus on dance as worship and are designed for ages 12 to adult. No dance experience is required. Cost is $5 for the community and free for Church Health Center Wellness members. Please join the Church Health Center for Laurelwood Church Health Center Day on Saturday, May 9. Laurelwood Shopping Center is located on Poplar Ave. between Perkins Extended and Grove Park Rd. The day will include donor celebrations in different stores such as Chico’s and Joseph’s. Participating shops will donate 10% of each purchase made to the Church Health Center and will be identified by purple balloons outside of each door. Presented by The Oaks at La Paloma of the Foundations Recovery Network, the Heroes in Recovery 6K Run and Walk will kick off at 8 a.mon Saturday, May 30 at Overton Park. This year’s race will benefit the Church Health Center. Log on to heroes6k.com to register.

The Church Health Center will host a wine tasting from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m.on Sunday, June 7 at Ecco Restaurant, 1585 Overton Park. The event will include food from Ecco, wine, and entertainment. For more information, log on to churchhealthcenter.org.
