Arctic Blast Weather Preparations by the City OEM
The City of Memphis Office of Emergency Management is in gear for arctic winter weather conditions that will linger in Memphis over the next several days. The City of Memphis has implemented its cold weather plan beginning with Warming Centers – Warming Centers are places where residents dealing with extended times of low temperatures, below 20° F, may escape the extreme conditions. Primary locations for warming centers are usually malls, shopping centers, libraries, and community centers that are opened during normal business hours.
Due to the extreme temperatures in the evening hours, the Orange Mound Community Center, located at 2572 Park Avenue, will remain open from 7 pm-7 am beginning Wednesday January 7, 2014 for those seeking warmth after normal business hours.
Those seeking overnight accommodations are encouraged to seek assistance from our partners at The Union Mission located at 383 Poplar Ave. or The Salvation Army located at 696 Jackson Ave. MATA will provide transportation to the Warming Center and locations listed above. You can reach MATA at 901-722-7129.
Our staff will continue to monitor the situation for any changes in conditions.
